Album Review: Wet Illustrated – ’1x1x1′
“The sound of a band having fun”, a line that can often induce a shudder from ‘serious’ music fans fearing the onset of some monstrosity of a novelty record. In the case of Wet Illustrated, there is no need to worry, as ‘fun’ is communicated in a gloriously ramshackle procession of lo-fi garage rock with just enough psych skew-whiffery to prevent it from veering into ‘by numbers’ territory. ‘Gypsy Town’ has the kind of infectious melody which is hard to shake, and even seemingly more straightforward numbers such as ‘Satellite Kids’ eventually veer off into more idiosynchratic territory. In the hands of Wet Illustrated, ‘fun’ need not be a dirty word in music anymore.
‘X Factor’ Week 5 Club Classics – Live Blog
Can The X Factor get any more dramatic than last weekend’s Kelly Rowland-less show? With a Club Classics theme night, anything is possible, but we’re hoping for the time being that the name changes, band alterations and judges’ switcheroos have been dealt with.
Who will prosper this evening? Can Frankie Cocozza hit back at his haters with a euphoric club banger? What will Johnny sing? And how crazy can Kitty possibly go – bring on the smiley T-shirts!
Digital Spy will be live blogging the action all evening, so stick with us for updates and punditry throughout the show.
Share your views on the night’s events at the bottom of the page and by popping tweets over to @dsrealitybites. Full article…
Live Review: Bon Iver, HMV Hammersmith Apollo, London
It’s a measure of a musician when you want to burst into tears during the third song. But as Justin Vernon sings ‘Towers’ in the upper register he’s so well known for, it all becomes clear: we’re in the presence of greatness.
Everything about this sold-out, captivating gig is perfect: the warm blue, black, and red washes of light; the immense, crystal clear sound pushing forward into our bellies; the hypnotic, bombastic, intimate songs of Bon Iver.
Perhaps a nine-piece band is excessive. Certainly two drummers seems unnecessary, but to their credit it’s never forced. Opener ‘Perth’ has a dynamism that runs throughout the gig, the band making stunning use of breakdowns into near silence only to sweep back with a power rarely felt at a gig.
‘X Factor’ Misha B accused of ‘bullying’ by Louis Walsh, Tulisa
X Factor star Misha Bryan has been accused of “bullying” her fellow contestants by judges Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos.
The 19-year-old received positive comments from the panel for her performance of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ on tonight’s show, but Contostavlos also took the opportunity to address reports of her “mean” behaviour backstage.

“You are definitely a star of the show,” she started. “But I think you’re very competitive and I’ve seen a different side of you backstage. Full article…
