‘Village Music’ Gives Tribute to the Last Great Record Shops

Music shops used to be about more than just selling songs. They were places where people could come and chat about what made music great. There was one place in particular, a record shop in Mill Valley, California, where top artists would come to chat and collaborate. Among them were Jerry Garcia, B.B. King, Elvis Costello, and (although not a musician) George Lucas.

The shop closed its doors in 2007, as have many other music shops across the United States. Filmmakers Gillian Grisman and Monroe Grisman are now documenting its story in “Village Music: Last of the Great Record Stores.”

Catch Kiwi drama Nothing Trivial

IF you haven’t had a chance to catch Kiwi drama Nothing Trivial yet then make sure to tune in this week.

The fact that it out-rated Packed to the Rafters in New Zealand, if nothing else, should peak your interest. The show’s New Zealand debut in July also had the highest ratings of a locally made series in more than 10 years.

The hit series follows five mates who meet at their local watering hole each week for a trivia quiz.

“The quiz questions tend to relate with what’s going on in their lives,” said star Shane Cortese, whom viewers might recognise from Outrageous Fortune, another successful Kiwi TV export.

Cortese’s character Mac is at the centre of the series.

Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor: Your thoughts?

Lindsay Lohan: from channeling Marilyn Monroe in Playboy to playing Liz Taylor on the small screen?

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Lohan is in talks to play the iconic star of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “Cleopatra” in the upcoming Lifetime original movie, “Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story,” a film focused on the tumultuous relationship between Taylor and two-time husband Richard Burton.

The project has been in development for nearly a year, so it’s unclear how quickly this could happen or whether Lohan, a.k.a. recent Playboy covergirl, is competing against some other strong candidates.
